Individuals in dozens of private businesses can support Community Shares through payroll deduction programs at their workplaces, and Community Shares is working to offer payroll deduction at more workplaces so all Milwaukeeans can exercise their right to make their own choices in giving.
(Note: We do not get donations from those who write our name on the United Way Donor Choice Pledge form).
If your company does not offer payroll deduction through Community Shares, please call us at (414) 342 – 0883 and let us know that you would like to be able to give to Community Shares through payroll deduction at your workplace. A Community Shares campaign is easy to start—whether your company currently offers a payroll deduction program or not.
You can also donate through this site (click on “Online Giving” in the sidebar to the left), by automatic electronic transfer from your checking account or by credit card or check.
Here are some other creative ways to give to Community Shares. Call us if you are interested in setting up one of these options or learning more about them.
- Make an outright gift of stock to Community Shares.
- Put Community Shares in your Will - Making a bequest of your home or property can help you reduce or eliminate estate taxes that might otherwise have to be paid on the value of your home.
- Set up a charitable remainder trust through which you can make a stock donation to your charity of choice while avoiding potential capital gains tax and eliminating estate tax liability.
- Create a charitable gift annuity - By donating property, for example, you can receive a charitable income tax deduction in the current tax year. Your charity of choice can sell the property and make annual payments to you in the form of annuity income.
- Leave a charitable legacy by making a gift of life insurance to Community Shares. Turn a yearly premium payment on a life insurance contract into a charitable income tax deduction and a substantial charitable gift.
- Name Community Shares as a beneficiary of your IRA.
